CF to host lecture with author Travis Atria

The 香蕉视频鈥檚 Department of Humanities and Social Sciences will host a lecture with author Travis Atria on Monday, April 20, at 5 p.m. at the CF Ocala Campus, Building 8, 3001 S.W. College Road. Atria is the author of 鈥淏etter Days Will Come Again: The Life of Arthur Briggs, Jazz Genius of Harlem, Paris, and a Nazi Prison Camp.鈥 about the life of trumpeter Arthur Briggs. Homeric in scope, Briggs鈥 life story unfolds as a sweeping journey through music, migration, resilience and hope.
Drawing from groundbreaking research and unprecedented access to Briggs鈥 oral memoir, Atria traces Briggs鈥 remarkable journey from the Harlem Renaissance to Europe, where he was among the first pioneers to introduce jazz music to the world. During the legendary Jazz Age in Paris, Briggs was called 鈥渢he Louis Armstrong of Paris鈥 and was a peer of musical greats including Josephine Baker and Django Reinhardt. Attendees will learn what happened when Briggs was sent to France鈥檚 Saint-Denis internment camp in this epic tale of survival.
