Financial Aid

CF successfully updated financial aid offers for a majority of Summer students on Wednesday, July 29, and is now moving forward with the disbursement process. The remaining steps of the process are anticipated to take place over the next four business days, at which point funds for eligible students will be transmitted to CF’s refund provider, Nelnet. You can access Nelnet through the Student Accounts tab on the MyCF portal to review your refund preferences.

The Financial Aid department will continue to manually review and update any remaining aid for summer.

CF is continuing to disburse financial aid to summer students. Once disbursed, it may take up to three business days for the funds to be available through CF’s refund provider, Nelnet. You can access Nelnet through the Student Accounts tab on the MyCF portal.

As of July 22, 26-27 aid offers are now visible to students in their Financial Aid dashboards, accessible through the MyCF portal.

Financial Aid

As of July 16, the CF Financial Aid department has disbursed $1.68 million to summer enrolled students.

The Financial Aid department has completed disbursement for standard students in Summer A term only, and is now in the process of disbursing to students in Summer B, C and mixed terms over the next several weeks, followed by Summer students with highly complex records. Inaccuracies with student records are still being corrected; we thank you for patience as we work diligently to fix the issues in the system so that we can disburse the correct amount of aid for all students.

Please note that, once disbursed, it may take up to three business days for the funds to be available through CF’s refund provider, Nelnet. You can access Nelnet through the Student Accounts tab on the MyCF portal.

Student Accounts

All billing for summer B students is now fully corrected and accurate. Fall bills are still being calculated. Fall billing is anticipated to open by the end of July.

Financial Aid

CF is currently in the process of disbursing financial aid. Please note that there are still delays in disbursement as we work to ensure all student records are fully accurate prior to awarding aid. The following indicates the anticipated order of aid processing:

1. Summer A term only students – Completed as of July 9
2. Summer C and mixed term students – In progress as of July 10
3. Summer B term only students – TBD
4. Summer A, C or B term students with holds such as Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) warnings or unconventional records – TBD

Aid disbursement may be released in separate, staggered batches based on aid type (scholarships, Bright Futures, grants, loans, etc.). Notifications will be sent from NelNet to Patriots Mail every time a refund is available.

Financial Aid

We are working to correct inaccuracies found in student records in order to properly disburse aid. Expert software technicians are on campus and online with our team every day, and we have had great progress in updating these records and have taken positive steps toward resolution.

The Financial Aid department has started the process of disbursing some funds to students, dependent on a variety of factors such as source of funding. Because aid is coming from multiple sources (like federal, state, and local grants or loans), aid is being released in separate, staggered batches rather than all at once, and there is still no definite timeline for full disbursement.

We appreciate your patience and will notify you via Patriots Mail when your funds are disbursed, including information regarding whether your aid package has been completely disbursed or is still pending other funding sources.

Please know that the CF Patriot Fund application is available to any student having emergency financial need. It is located on the Help tab and the Student Accounts tab on the MyCF Portal.

Summer B students eligible for financial aid can pick up their school supply kits at the Ocala Campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The temporary station will be located outside Building 36 on July 9, and inside Building 1, room 102 or 107, from July 13–16. All other students can either choose to wait until CF’s new bookstore, BibliU, opens on July 27 or purchase supplies from other retailers. Scantrons needed for exams will be provided by your instructor.

Billing

The �㽶��Ƶ is working diligently to update the data in order to finalize billing as soon as possible.

Summer B students can expect their billing information to be updated within the next week. Please keep an eye on your Patriots Mail for the most up-to-date information. Fall semester students will be notified when billing has opened, and payment plans for this semester have been extended. Students now have until July 20 (extended from July 9) to secure the initial down payment option for their payment plans.

The �㽶��Ƶ is working hard to integrate a newly installed student information software system. Despite our best efforts, financial aid disbursements have been delayed by a series of technical setbacks related to the integration of the new system.
What is the cause of the issues?
After launching CF’s new technology system, we have identified some inaccuracies in student records. In order to legally disburse financial aid, we must first correct and verify these student records, which are used to determine financial aid offers.
What is CF doing about it?
We are addressing these technical issues with great urgency and are in the process of manually verifying all affected student records to ensure aid offers are correct before disbursement. Because of the complexity of the process, exact payment dates are not available at this time and estimated financial aid on student’s Financial Aid Dashboard may not be accurate. We are working to ensure all students receive the funds they are eligible for. We understand the impact this has on our students and have reallocated staff and contracted additional outside technical support to complete the distribution as soon as possible.

If students have an emergency financial need, they are encouraged to apply to the CF Patriot Fund, which is located on the Help tab and the Student Accounts tab on the MyCF Portal.

Due to CF’s new IT system, disbursement of Summer financial aid is delayed. We recognize that this delay may place a burden on students relying on those funds. Because of planned system updates, some students are experiencing an unexpected delay in receiving student aid funds from loans, scholarships and grants. Through this new partnership with BibliU, CF students also have easy access to the new MyCF Books program, which provides day-one access to all required digital textbooks and courseware directly in their online student portal. Through the flat-rate program, MyCF Books, CF students will have access to required course materials for one predictable cost, helping reduce uncertainty around textbook pricing and making it easier to be prepared for class. The digital-first model is designed to improve affordability, simplify access and support student success from the first day of the term.

Artworks will be judged by Donald Furst, emeritus professor of art at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. As a faculty member for nearly 40 years, Furst received numerous teaching distinctions and is currently the operator of Ars Longa Press, a fine art atelier specializing in stone lithography, mezzotint and other forms of intaglio printmaking. His work has been exhibited and collected internationally.

The community is invited to the opening reception and awards presentation on Thursday, Aug. 20, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The CF District Board of Trustees approved the college’s annual budget on June 24, keeping tuition rates flat for all degree and certificate programs in support of the state’s priority on no tuition increases. This year’s tuition rate continues CF’s ranking as one of the most affordable colleges in the country.

“Three-quarters of �㽶��Ƶ graduates leave the college with no student loan debt,” said Dr. Jim Henningsen, CF president. “Keeping college affordable is a priority at CF, and our students graduate with jobs, not debt.”

CF consistently ranks among the top 7% of colleges in the nation for affordability, according to the U.S. Department of Education. The cost for associate level courses is $112.92 per credit hour, or approximately $2,710 per year for a student with a 12-credit course load for two semesters. The cost for a bachelor’s level course is $129.27 per credit hour, or approximately $3,102.48 for a student with a 12-credit course load for two semesters.

CF’s tuition is about half the cost of a public Florida university and only 13% of the cost of a private Florida university.

“American art tells the story of who we are, where we have been, and how we see ourselves,” said Victoria Billig, Appleton assistant director. “We invite visitors to spend time with the works featured in “My Country, ’Tis of Thee” and reflect on the many ways artists have interpreted the American experience.”

Free admission provides an opportunity for first-time and returning visitors alike to not only explore the museum’s galleries, but also participate in educational programming. On July 24 at 1 p.m., enjoy a free talk in the auditorium by Dr. Keri Watson: “Picturing Paradise: From John James Audubon to the Florida Highwaymen.” The Florida landscape has provided aesthetic inspiration to artists for centuries. Titian Ramsay Peale and John James Audubon came in search of native flora and fauna, followed by Harriet Beecher Stowe, Martin Johnson Heade, George Inness, Winslow Homer and Henry Ossawa Tanner, who were lured by its natural beauty and warm climate. Through their stories and artwork, this presentation offers an engaging overview of Florida’s landscape painting tradition. This talk is free to attend; no reservation needed. Auditorium seating is limited to 250 on a first-come, first-served basis.

This marks the seventh consecutive year the CF Foundation has received funding from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County through the Edward K. Roberts Community College Fund, bringing their total scholarship support to $480,000.

Since 2020, the Edward K. Roberts Scholarship has helped more than 200 CF students pursue their educational goals and remain enrolled despite financial challenges. Funding is available for students studying at the CF Ocala Campus, Wilton Simpson Citrus Campus and Jack Wilkinson Levy Campus.

“We are thankful for the continued support of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and the Edward K. Roberts Community College Fund, said Jerry Benton, chair of the CF Foundation board of directors. “This scholarship opens doors for students who are working hard to create brighter futures for themselves and their families.”

After receiving a Brownie camera from his father as a boy, Levenson developed a lifelong passion for photography. He studied the medium at the Rhode Island School of Design before going on to work with Robert Frank and develop prints for Richard Avedon. In addition to his career as a photographer, he taught at the University of Ottawa and lectured at Harvard and Brown University.

Drawn from the 80 works by Levenson in the Appleton’s permanent collection, “Life, Labor and Lens” features 25 black-and-white and color photographs that evoke a sense of familiarity and nostalgia.

Admission is free on the first Saturday of each month. Additionally, museum admission is free throughout the month of July in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
