Information Technology Information Session, Sept. 25

The 香蕉视频鈥檚 Business and Technology Department will host an Information Technology information session on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 12:15-1:45 p.m., at the 香蕉视频 Ewers Century Center, Room 310, 3001 S.W. College Road., Ocala.

Participants will have an opportunity to meet staff, faculty, students and alumni of the college鈥檚 Computer Information Technology and Management Information Systems program. They will also hear from local employers Verteks Consulting, ITonDemand, Hospice of Marion County, city of Ocala and the Talent Center about local jobs and internships in the IT industry and how CF programs can help advance your tech career.

Free Admission to the Appleton Sept. 21 with Smithsonian Museum Day Program

The Appleton Museum of Art, 香蕉视频, is pleased to participate in the Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day on Saturday, Sept. 21.

This program grants free admission to participating museums and cultural institutions across the country. Download your ticket, good for up to two guests, and present your paper or e-ticket anytime between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sept. 21. Tickets can be downloaded by clicking聽.

On view at the Appleton during this time, 鈥淪tephanie Brown: Do Not Bleach,鈥 a series of mixed-media installations, encourages melanin positivity; 鈥淯rban Chatter: Sharon Kerry-Harlan,鈥 featuring art quilts and mixed-media works of art that meld abstraction, African masks, and reference from the Harlem jazz scene; and 鈥淔lorida Impressions: Relief Prints by Leslie Peebles.鈥

Guests may also visit the ARTSpace for art-making activities for the whole family.

College Financial Aid Workshop at CF Citrus, Oct. 3

High school seniors and incoming and current college students interested in getting assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid can attend a workshop on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 5-7 p.m. in the Citrus Learning and Conference Center at the 香蕉视频 Citrus Campus, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway, Lecanto.

Students under the age of 24 years old are strongly encouraged to attend with their parent or guardian. Required documents to bring include the student鈥檚 photo identification, parents鈥 and student鈥檚 2018 income tax returns and all W-2s, Social Security numbers and dates of birth of parents and student, and records of all 2018 untaxed income.

Stay Local Event Focuses on Career Opportunities, Oct. 2

The 香蕉视频鈥檚 Business and Technology Department and the Talent Center will host a special event about the high-wage, high-demand career opportunities in our community on Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 5-7:30 p.m., at the 香蕉视频 Ewers Century Center, 3001 S.W. College Road., Ocala.

Participants will have an opportunity to choose from breakout sessions and network with some of Ocala鈥檚 top employers and industry leaders. Explore local business career tracks, interact with representatives from career and technical programs in the Marion County schools and 香蕉视频, and get your career questions answers by Ocala鈥檚 top employers. Participants will also hear from Jeromy Williams, owner and operator of Chick-Fil-A about leadership skills and tools for success in business and hear from industry leaders about the state of Ocala鈥檚 economy and anticipated job opportunities.

CF International Film Series Kicks Off Sept. 10

The 香蕉视频鈥檚 International Film Series kicks off in September, starting with 鈥淪hoplifters鈥 on Tuesday, Sept. 10, and 鈥淚 am Not a Witch鈥 on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Shows start at 2 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art and at 7 p.m. at the Ocala Campus in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building 8, Room 110.

鈥淪hoplifters鈥 is about a group of drifters who find each other and make a pseudo family of their own, with survival as their goal. This film is in Japanese with English subtitles. It is rated R and has a total run time of 120 minutes. 鈥淚 am Not a Witch鈥 features an 8-year-old girl who turns up alone in a rural Zambian village where she is quickly found guilty and sentenced to a state-run witch camp. This film is in English, Nyanja and Tonga with English subtitles. It is rated NR and has a total run time of 90 minutes.

Viewings are free at CF. Series membership, which includes fall and spring screenings at the Appleton Museum of Art, is $15 for individuals, $25 for dual membership and includes a bonus film each year. For information about membership, call 352-873-5808.

CF Donates School Supplies to College Park Elementary

The 香蕉视频 and Association of Florida Colleges CF Chapter donated school supply items to College Park Elementary School valued at $3,248. Items included kindergarten start smart supply packs and student incentives and resources.

鈥淐ollege Park Elementary has a student population where 100 percent of the students are economically disadvantaged and the school has an 84 percent minority rate,鈥 said Dr. Renae Robinson, Teacher Education faculty and business partner liaison. 鈥淎s a business partner, we have the privilege of making an impact on the success of those students right in our backyard.鈥

CF has 400 full-time employees and gives back to the community in a variety of ways through the American Heart Association, the United Way in Citrus and Marion County, College Park Elementary School as well as the Salvation Army鈥檚 Evangeline Booth Garden apartments.

The AFC CF chapter has 262 members and has been hosting the school supply drive annually as part of the partnership it has with College Park Elementary School. AFC represents employees, presidents and trustees associated with the Florida College System, and actively promotes, represents and supports members and institutions as they prepare students for the future. AFC has chapters throughout the state of Florida.

Appleton Announces New Director, Thanks Legislative Delegation

The Appleton Museum of Art, 香蕉视频, proudly announces Jason Steuber as the museum鈥檚 new director.

Steuber has more than 20 years of curatorial and project management experience with American Alliance of Museums-accredited museums. He is an award-winning Asian Art historian and has been an art museum leader and financial decision maker for the past 10 years, serving as the Cofrin Curator of Asian Art Endowed Chair at the聽Samuel P. Harn Museum at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Previously he served as the Leverhulme Trust Visiting Fellow at Glasgow University in Scotland and Assistant Curator of Chinese Art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City. He began his work at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art as a research assistant and curatorial intern.

鈥淚 am honored to become part of the 香蕉视频 and Appleton Museum team,鈥 said Steuber. 鈥淚 am well aware of the community鈥檚 fervor for the arts and appreciation for the museum, and I look forward to cultivating that passion to bring the Appleton to the next level.鈥

Steuber will officially join the Appleton team on Sept. 16.

The museum鈥檚 permanent collections of approximately 18,000 objects include European, American, Asian, African, Contemporary and pre-Columbian art and artifacts, and a series of temporary traveling exhibitions are presented throughout the year. The museum is also building a collection of works of Florida artists which relates directly to the history and cultural heritage of the Central Florida community.

Citrus Careers and Colleges Expo Sept. 9 at CF Citrus Campus

The 香蕉视频 and Citrus County Public Schools present 2019 Careers and Colleges Expo Monday, Sept. 9, from 5-7 p.m., at the CF Citrus Learning and Conference Center, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway, Lecanto.

Representatives from more than 20 educational institutions, businesses, professional and government organizations, and the military will be on hand, sharing valuable information with area high school students and their families.

鈥淐ollege-bound students, as well as those interested in career exploration, will find valuable information at the expo,鈥 said Sonya Warden, CF director of Student Affairs.

Artist Talk With Leslie Peebles August 29

The Appleton Museum of Art, 香蕉视频, presents an artist talk with Leslie Peebles on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. Her work is on view at the Appleton through Jan. 12 in a solo exhibition entitled 鈥淔lorida Impressions: Relief Prints by Leslie Peebles.鈥

鈥淢y path as an artist intertwines between spiritual, dream work and an ever-growing connection with nature,鈥 said Peebles, who is an ardent environmentalist. 鈥淣ature serves as a living metaphor for the connectedness of all things; internal, external and universal. Land, trees and animals are projections and identifiers of self and universe.鈥

Appleton Curator of Exhibitions Patricia Tomlinson will join Peebles for this talk, and provide curatorial perspectives on the artist鈥檚 work. This event is free for Appleton members; included with regular admission fee for nonmembers.

CF Webber Gallery to Present ‘Fight or Flight: Kevin Haran and Robert Reedy’ Aug. 12-Sept. 20

The 香蕉视频 presents 鈥淔ight or Flight: Kevin Haran and Robert Reedy,鈥 Aug. 12-Sept. 20 at the Webber Gallery, Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. The exhibition curated by Tyrus Clutter, associate professor at CF, will feature a mix of paintings and sculptures by both artists. The works in the exhibition address fight or flight in literal and nonliteral ways.

Kevin Haran is an associate professor at the School of Visual Arts and Design at the University of Central Florida. Haran will be showing a series of UFO mixed media drawings and war memorial images that depict the imagery in bold lines mixed with ink washes, giving the images a sense of dimension and reality. Robert Reedy is a professor of Art at the School of Visual Arts and Design at the University of Central Florida. Reedy will present a large series of birds in flight throughout the gallery, along with ceramic sculptural works.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The gallery is closed Saturday, Sunday and college-observed holidays. The public is invited to the closing reception on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 5-7 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free.
