Summer Art Camp at the Appleton Museum of Art

The Appleton Museum of Art, 香蕉视频, will offer 22 weeklong summer art camps, and several two-week camps, over the course of eight weeks for ages 4 and older. Enrollment begins April 1 at聽.

June 3-7

  • Crazy About Color (Limit 12 students): 9 a.m.-noon, Ages 4-6

Imagination meets inspiration in this color-filled week. Sensory, fine motor and color awareness skills will be explored while creating colorful works of art.

  • Van Gogh: 9 a.m.-noon, Ages 7-12

Learn about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and some of his most famous works of art while painting using his style and techniques.

  • Fashion Fun: 1-4 p.m., Ages 7-12

It鈥檚 all about fashion! This week is full of dreaming, designing and creating fashion and art using a variety of techniques.

June 10-14

  • Birds, Butterflies and Bees: 9 a.m.-noon, Ages 7-12

There are so many BEE-utiful colors and patterns in these wonderful little creatures. Campers will learn about the important role bees play in our environment while creating art. It鈥檒l be a 鈥渉oney鈥 of a week.

  • Storybook Art: 1-4 p.m., Ages 7-12

What are flip books or triangle books? Learn all about them and make books and art inspired by stories.

  • Meet the Masters (Limit 12 students): 1-4 p.m., Ages 4-6

Through art and stories, pint-sized Picassos will be introduced to a new artist each day and experience a variety of materials to create inspired works of art.

June 17-21

  • Pop Art: 9 a.m.-noon, Ages 7-12

What is big with bright colors and fun subjects? Pop Art! Discover the Pop Art movement to create bold and exciting works of art.

  • Meet the Masters (Limit 12 students): 1-4 p.m., Ages 4-6

Through art and stories, pint-sized Picassos will be introduced to a new artist each day and experience a variety of materials to create inspired works of art.

June 17-28 (two-week camp)

  • Dig Into Clay Jr.: 1-4 p.m., Ages 7-12

It鈥檚 clay every day in this two-week camp where campers learn the basics of hand-building and glazing.

June 24-28

  • Printmaking and Illustration: 9 a.m.-noon, Ages 12 and up

Using our printing press, discover different types of printmaking and then combine these artistic processes with illustration.

  • Florida Wildlife: 9 a.m.-noon, Ages 7-12

Manatees, gators, herons and even snakes will be the subjects of our artwork this week. We鈥檒l be drawing, painting and sculpting some of the most interesting animals that call Florida their home. Bring a gator home that doesn鈥檛 BITE!

July 8-12

  • Painting Possibilities: 9 a.m.-noon, Ages 12 and up

Spend a week discovering new painting techniques while creating with acrylics, watercolor and mixed media.

  • Ancient Egypt: 9 a.m.-noon, Ages 7-12

The mysteries of the Egyptian underworld and pyramid treasures will be unraveled as campers make Egyptian-themed works of art. But, they can鈥檛 bring their mummy!

  • Ahoy, Pirates! 1-4 p.m., Ages 7-12

Pirate ships, treasure maps and islands of adventure await campers. Live like a pirate for a week and create pirate-inspired works of art.

July 15-19

  • Myths & Legends: 9 a.m.-noon, Ages 7-12

Unicorns, dragons and mermaids: are they myth or legend? Creativity will be unleashed to make artwork inspired by these magical creatures.

  • Caribbean Art: 1-4 p.m., Ages 7-12

Known for bright tropical landscapes and crystal clear oceans filled with colorful fish, the Caribbean will inspire campers to bring the warmth and color of the islands to their work this week.

July 15-26 (two-week camp)

  • AppleTEENS Clay: 1-4 p.m., Ages 12 and up

This two-week camp for teens is all about throwing, building, glazing and discovering what fun clay can be! Learn to throw on a pottery wheel and combine it with unique hand building techniques to make some amazing pieces. Explore how glazes can make a simple piece spectacular.

July 22-26

  • Art from Nature: 9 a.m.-noon, Ages 7-12

Campers will go back to nature, where art began, and use supplies like sand, clay, leaves and sticks to create masterpieces.

  • Brick Art: 1-4 p.m., Ages 7-12

Design it. Create it. Wreck it. The ARTSpace鈥檚 LEGO collection will be used to build three-dimensional works of art. The LEGO creations will be used to inspire painting, printmaking and sculpture projects.

July 29-Aug. 2

College Financial Aid Workshop at CF Citrus, March 26

Potential and current college students, including high school seniors interested in getting assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid can attend a workshop on Tuesday, March 26, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Citrus Learning and Conference Center at the 香蕉视频 Citrus Campus, 3800 S. Lecanto Highway, Lecanto.

Students are strongly encouraged to attend with their parent or guardian. Required documents to bring include the student鈥檚 photo identification, parents鈥 and student鈥檚 2017 income tax returns and all W-2s, Social Security numbers and dates of birth of parents and student, and records of all 2017 untaxed income.

31st Annual Early Childhood Conference at CF March 30

The 香蕉视频 will host the 31st聽Annual Early Childhood Conference in partnership with the Early Learning Coalition of Marion County Saturday, March 30, at its Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road.

The conference will be held from 7:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Ewers Century Center. Registration is $40 before Feb. 25, then $60 after.

Attendees can participate in sessions and discover ideas to enhance children social and emotional development and participate in meaningful learning activities.

Keynote speaker is Lillian Hubler, founder and president of Time to Sign Inc. Hubler is known for her effective sign language training for educators of young children. Featured presenters are Dr. Michael Hubler speaking on 鈥淲ays to Promote Social and Emotional Learning鈥 and Adrienne Donaldson presenting 鈥淭oday I鈥檓 Chatty, Tomorrow I鈥檓 in my Feelings.鈥

CF to Present Spring Lecture Series, Feb. 13 and 27

The 香蕉视频鈥檚 Visual and Performing Arts Department will present聽 two spring聽 lectures this month. 鈥淢usic and the Brain鈥 will be presented by local neurologist Jos茅 Gaudier, M.D., P.A. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the Charles R. Dassance Fine Arts Center. 鈥淎nyone Can Improvise鈥 on Wednesday, Feb. 27, will feature Greg Snider, CF clarinet and saxophone instructor and Patriot Blues Jazz Band director, and will take place in the Webber Center, 3001 S.W. College Road, Ocala. Both lectures start at 12:30 p.m.

Gaudier is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association and Marion County Medical Association. He has been instrumental in bringing to Ocala a number of medical educational programs for physicians and has participated in a large number of research projects helping bring cutting edge technology to Ocala. For his work in the Medical Society of Marion County, he was named vice president of the organization in 2006-2007 and president in 2007-2008. In his passion to educate others, Gaudier has lectured patients and colleagues on various neurological topics. In addition, he has co-authored of several articles.

Snider recently was awarded a Master of Music Education with a focus on Jazz Studies at the University of Florida. Prior to that he completed a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance at UF. In conjunction with his teaching schedule, Snider performs multiple styles of music on the saxophone ranging from classical works to pop charts and jazz and can be seen playing regularly in the Gainesville and Ocala communities.

CF Journalism Students Take Home Awards

香蕉视频 students won numerous awards for CF鈥檚 student newspaper and literary magazines last week at the Florida College System Publications Association awards banquet in Tampa.

The Patriot Press, CF鈥檚 student newspaper, placed fifth in the Newspaper division. Co-Editor-in-Chief Delaney Van Nest placed second in the News Story division for 鈥淩U OK,鈥 CF鈥檚 Suicide Prevention program, in the August 2017 issue. Van Nest also placed third in the Sports Photo division for the CF Softball Team photo in the February 2018 issue, and third in the On-the-Spot photo contest. Current Sports Editor Zach Grinstead placed third in the Sports Column division for 鈥淪tudent Athletes and Sexual Assault鈥 in the March 2018 issue. Former Editor-in-Chief, Katelyn James placed third in the Humor Writing division for her satirical column 鈥淭ips to Freshmen鈥 in the April 2018 issue.

In the Write Mind, CF Citrus Campus literary magazine, placed second in the magazine division for overall photography. Students April Howell, Meghan Williamson and Julia Brodmerkel were awarded second place in photography. Jazzy Philipson won third place in the Artwork category for her painting of a saxophone player, while Isabella Witkowich won first place for her photograph entered in the On the Spot photo contest.

Imprints, CF Ocala Campus literary magazine, and CF student William Andrews received first place in the Cover category, William Andrews, Nathalya Reyes and Elizabeth Hinde received first place in Two-Page Spread category, and first place went to the Imprints staff for General Excellence, which is the overall accumulation of points in each category. Several second place awards were also given in the following categories: Poetry went to Victoria Thacker, Prince Quamin and Gary Pealer; Fiction went to Anna Howes; Art Works went to Raul Colmenares, Carlos Ramos and Hannah Newman; Contents Page went to Williams Andrews; and Editing and Staff Page went to the Imprints staff.

CF Associate Professor of Communications Rob Marino was also re-elected to serve as president of the Florida College System Publications Association. This is Marino鈥檚 sixth year serving as FCSPA president during the last 13 years.

The Florida College System Publications Association brings students and advisors together to provide a common ground for discussion of publications and mass media. The association provides responsible guidance to student publications to ensure their growth as a medium for the education of future citizens of a free society and to obtain the best thinking on problems in publications and mass communications and to share this thinking.
